Hi AR15 Hunters!

Just wondering what options and/or features you like to see in a hunting AR15 rifle as opposed to a standard tactical rifle? Also, what would be your color or pattern of choice?

Looking forward to this discussion,

Sherry

I'm sure others will chime in, however I personally look for the following in a hunting AR:

  • 16-18" match grade barrel, with a medium or heavy contour with fluting (to help keep the weight down, without sacrificing accuracy)
  • Mid-length or rifle-length gas system, depending on the barrel length
  • 13-15" Free floated hand guards: lightweight, tubular or with a continuous top rail is fine, so long as there are attachment points for a sling, bipod, etc.
  • A good match-grade two-stage trigger with a pull weight somewhere in the 3.5-4.5LBS range
  • .223 Wylde or 5.56 Match chamber
  • 1MOA or greater accuracy with quality hunting ammunition or match grade ammo

As far as a stock is concerned, I'm good with rifle or carbine setups; or maybe even a Vltor A5 setup. My main hunting rig has an A2 stock.

Thanks for joining Sherry!

I'm looking at getting an RRA 458 Socom this fall. Haven't settled on a scope yet. I started looking a the MeoStar R2 1-6x24, but I haven't decided yet.
